The Game Creators were pleased to see Community Member Kamac starting up a challenge around our Snake-Snacker AGK game, and we have taken the opportunity to support this endeavour. The entrants had one straight-forward task; to take the Snake-Snacker game and make something new or improved. All AGK developers have the source code to Snake-Snacker (along with many other games and demos), and a number of people including teams embraced the challenge.
The prize for the winning entry is the publishing of their game by The Game Creators to iOS (iPhone, iPad) and Android platforms. At the deadline of May 31st 2012 there were numerous entries, here are the top three:
Overall Winner – MoonSnaker by DVader

Snakes on a Plane is timid in comparison to Snakes in Space! DVader has taken the concept into the solar void that is not so empty anymore, cluttered with space debris. Collect Stardust while avoiding Asteroids to increase your base energy. Expand the limits of the base to increase the safer playing area, where asteroids only kill with head-on collisions. Outside of the energy zone you have limited survival time, and space debris is lethal to any part of your ever-increasing space snake.
Second Place – Snackantula by The Slayer / Hodgey / darkvee
In this arachnoid variant, you must keep eating the flies to maintain your energy levels. In a unique twist you generate your own obstacles by remaining on any part of the web too long, degrading it until it forms a hole. You can use your energy to repair the web and avoid disaster. One false move and you fall to your peril, through the holes or over the edge.
Third Place – Snake-U by Marl
This game has two modes, Arcade and Puzzle. Both games follow the classic concept of eating plenty and growing longer. In arcade mode, you play against the clock to clear all of the food in the shortest time possible. There are numerous obstacles and finding the ideal path to clear the level is taxing. In Puzzle mode you have a play-area laid out with walls and narrow corridors. The challenge again is to clear the level by eating all of the food, but with the additional difficulty of navigating through the corridors without trapping yourself.
Thank you and congratulations to all of the entrants, each of the main winners has also won a sprite pack, donated by Chris Van Wijmeersch.
